STOP, DROP and ROLL

Remember to Stop, Drop, and Roll!!
Some days it just feels like I have so many things bombarding my brain that it takes a very concerted effort to “reign in” the crazies, the not so crazies and the wide assortment of other “joy stealing” thoughts and worries.
So… I have a technique that I’d like to share with you…it is quick and easy, and very powerful!

You remember the phrase “Stop, Drop, and Roll!”, Right??
This phrase conjures up what memories for you? Mine is of my elementary school’s assembly where the BIG firemen came to show us what to do if we were on fire! We all learned “Stop, Drop and Roll!” We practiced this, we said it out loud, we remembered!
MY version of “Stop Drop and Roll”??
Begins with…
STOP – Take all the lists of things in your brain that you haven’t gotten done, the worrying about situations you have no control over, the thoughts that work to steal your joy. Gather them in your mind…place them in a sturdy box, (not a flimsy paper bag!) close the lid firmly and set it aside for a bit!
DROP—into a position to be able to “hear” or “receive” what God has for you. This could be on your knees, or sitting comfortably in a chair, with your hands folded or in an “open” posture.
Slow things down a bit by taking in a slow deep breath to the count of 4, holding for 4 and then slowly releasing it to 4. Do this at least 2 times…
Now,
ROLL your eyes (they can be opened or closed) toward heaven, and just pray, OR just listen, OR just BE!

Stop, Drop and Roll! Give it a try! I have found those 3 simple words have reminded me (sometimes several times a day!) of a few things!
1. I am NOT God, I do not need to have all the answers, solve all the problems, and understand all the ‘whys’ of this life.
2. Sometimes I need to be ‘POSITIONED” so I can focus and “be still” apart from the busy work of just our day to day existence. Even if this is just in my own mind! The slow, deep, breath…helps!
3. Stop, Drop and Roll… I CAN remember this! There already is a “file” in my brain with a memory from “days gone by” where my “new version” has become my current go to practice and it is good! Go figure!!

STOP, DROP and ROLL my friends—give it a try!
Let me know if this is helpful for you!
Blessings all!
Becky
